NOVA is a part of The Nursing Community - a national forum comprised of 58 nursing organizations that represent over 850,000 practicing nurses, nursing students, and nursing faculty. The Nursing Community focuses on advocating on a variety of health care and nursing issues, including practice, education and research.

August 13, 2015 - Letter to Senators Hatch and Wyden supporting Dr. Mary Wakefield nomitaion as Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. 

August 13, 2015 - Letter to Representative Mike Thompson (D-CA) in support of the Medicare Telehealth Parity Act of 2015 (H.R. 2948), which was introduced in the House on July 7, 2015. 

August 13, 2015 - Letter thanking Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR) for introducing an amendment during the Full Appropriations Committee mark-up of the Labor Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies bill that would have restored Title VIII funding to Fiscal Year 2015 levels. 

June 24, 2014 - Letter congratulating newly appointed Secretary of Health and Human Services Sylvia Mathews Burwell.

March 28, 2014 - Letters sent to members of the House and Senate LHHS-ED Appropriations Subcommittees requesting $251 million for the Health Resources and Services Administration’s Nursing Workforce Development programs, $150 million for the National Institute of Nursing Research, within the National Institutes of Health, and $20 million in authorized funding for the Nurse-Managed Health Clinics (Title III of the Public Health Service Act).  

March 14, 2014 - Letter supporting H.R. 3833 which would modify the Medicare Durable Medical Equipment (DME) face-to-face encounter documentation requirements since

Nurse Practitioners, Clinical Nurse Specialists, and Physician Assistants are qualified to perform these.

February 2014 - Letter to Chairman Harkin and Ranking Member Alexander, supporting Dr. Vivek Hallegere Murthy’s nomination as U.S. Surgeon General.

Americans for Nursing Shortage Relief 

NOVA is a member of the Americans for Nursing Shortage Relief - a nationwide alliance of nursing organizations committed to alleviating the nursing shortage through implementing a set of initiatives. These actions include increasing the nursing workforce, expanding nursing education, providing opportunities for nurses’ professional advancement and raising public awareness of the nursing shortage and its impact on the quality of the nation’s health care.
